My Life With Lyme

I have suffered with Lyme for over 20 years.

It has wreaked havoc on my body and on my life. I had a heart attack and had to have my gallbladder removed as a result of Lyme’s assault on my organs. In addition, I have frequent bouts of “brain fog”, difficulty in finding words, and having a difficult time concentrating. My work depends on writing, speaking on talk shows, and in-person advocating for criminal justice reforms to government leaders. All of these important parts of my work have been impeded severely when flare-ups occur. I have had to cancel testimony before the US Senate Judiciary Committee and two hearings in the House because of a terrible flare. On occasions I have had to back out of discussions at the White House because I was in too much pain to walk from my car, through security, and along the hallways to get to the meetings.
